Well it has certainly been an interesting weekend. That’s not true but starting these posts off is a real pain in the ass, and that sounds like a good opener. Last Saturday’s all night session was fun but took an unfortunate turn. We had maybe 8 people at one time skating Hanneko. Beers were had, tricks were landed, and stoke was dished out in hefty proportions, but poor Joe took a hard slam. I was turned around riding in the opposite direction at the time, but I heard the distinct sound of meat hitting concrete. Sounds sort of like a mix between a hefty thud and a slap. Joe dropped about 5 feet from a ledge to his right side. He was visibly hurt, and eventually called it a night, catching the last train home. Turns out he dislocated his shoulder and needs to be in a sling for a month. I see a lot of left-handed wanking in young Joe’s near future. Don’t get discouraged Joe, think of it like a new girlfriend.
After seeing Joe off, we watched Yuji try to land a trick over a chain-to-grind. He landed a few different tricks in the process, but nothing to his liking. Alas he too slammed; after catching his feet on the chain, Yuji sunk his teeth into a giant shit-sandwich. Om-nom-nom! That put an end to that evening’s session. Tim will have pictures and more words up later…Probably.
In other news, I downloaded the new Toy Machine video “Brainwash”. I have always been a fan of Ed Templeton and like Toy Machine. I remember their early ads during their start up years really standing out in comparison to the usual crap that ruled the early 90’s skate magazines.
Closing in 20 years since Toy Machine started, I am currently for the first time riding one of their boards. And although “Heavy Metal” and “Welcome to Hell” are two of my favorite videos, “Brainwash” is the first Toy video I have ever purchased. Sorry Ed but there is a reason for this: I am poor and therefore I am also cheap. The board was on sale and the video was purchased with an iTunes card I got in return for helping a doctor prepare for an interview. Score.
“So Leiv, when are you going to shut the fuck up about your spending habits and talk about the video?”
Funny you should ask; I was just getting to that. My official stance is: It’s good, but needs more Ed. “Brainwash” is short and to the point. The introduction is brief and without changing songs it goes right into Daniel Lutheran’s shred fest. The Butcher’s part was a pleasant surprise, as he mixed things up, instead of the usual collage of long ollies and b/s 180s. Not to take away from the efforts of anyone else, because everyone killed it, but I really enjoyed Jordan Taylor’s part best of all. The soundtrack is mostly punk/rock (whatever; I’m not up on genre names, nor do I care), which some people may not be into. Buy it if you’re not skint. It’s good. If you’re not satisfied, please write to me below. I’ll send something to anyone who can give me a rational and valid reason for not liking it (seriously). It might be used toilet paper so choose your words carefully. And if you think I’m joking feel free to contact the subscription department at High Speed Productions and ask them if they ever received a re-subscription form for Thrasher from Japan covered in fecal matter.

In other news, the High Five has a great clip of Randy Ploesser up. Good shit. I think the High Five has the best graphics in the game right now.

If you haven’t heard of Skateistan, check them out. This video reminds me not to bitch about less than ideal skate conditions.
SKATEISTAN(スケーティスタン)という慈善学校を知らなければ是非チェックして下さい。
Here’s some wacky skateboarding for you. Play your cards right Kilian. Don’t end up like Simon Woodstock or Nate Sheerwood.
Lastly, 41VM will be covering Kobe’s Minato-no-Mori skate park this Sunday 11/21, for their upcoming issue. I guess they do some kind of skate park spotlight section in their videos. Afterward, Shelter will be hosting a shindig of some sort starting at 5 pm. Sounds like a guaranteed bro-down.

You going to be out Sunday? I’ll probably check out whatever is going down at the park, but either I’ll be out skating in Kobe.
